Fernandez Qualifies in Row Five for Indianapolis 500
Adrian Fernandez, #5 Investment Properties of America Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"Everything went better than I thought. I didn't think we would be able to pull an average of 225 mph. This is the fastest we have run the last few days that we have been on the track. We just didn't have enough time with the car. This is a new car and a new crew, and it just takes time. We couldn't catch up to Scott and Kosuke in that respect; it's just time in the car. Our speed is solid on the grid. I don't think there is a problem in being bumped out. We just have to focus on the month and try to have a strong car. If you have a strong car you can win from there.
"I am very happy with the performance of the whole team. Scott and Kosuke did a great job. Their qualifying efforts were strong, and we are pretty happy where we are. A front row starting position is great for Fernandez Racing. I am very proud of how everyone is working and the drivers did a good job. We looked solid and strong for the Indy 500 qualifications and now we just have to focus on the race."
John Ward, Race Engineer:
"We started the month out with a brand new team, brand new car, everything, and we made a lot of progress. There were a few bumps in the road but we are pretty much moving forward. The car was the most consistent during qualifying, but it wasn't as fast as we would like. What you need here is to get in the show of course, which we are, and you need a good race car. Adrian is the best race car driver out there, and I think we are going to be good in the race. That is what counts."
