Sharp 10th in Opening Practice at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Scott Sharp claimed the 10 th fastest time of the day in opening activities for this Sunday's Toyota Indy 300, the first race on the 2006 IndyCar Series calendar. The two practice sessions marked Sharp's first time behind the wheel of the team's new Dallara chassis, and he was pleased with the day's progress. Sharp was eighth-quickest in the final 45-minute afternoon session, narrowing the gap to 0.2941 seconds behind the fastest time of the day.

Sharp will be looking to build on a solid 2005 campaign, which included his ninth career win and a fifth-place finish in the series ' championship, when the green flag waves on Sunday. The race will mark Sharp's sixth career start at Homestead. He claimed his best finish to date of fifth at Homestead in 2003.

Scott Sharp - #8 Delphi Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"In the grand scope of things, it was a great day for the whole team. The guys busted their tails to build our new Dallara in record time. We came out this morning and, in a half hour practice which obviously doesn't give you much time, and we had a great session. The guys did a nice job and J.D. [John Dick, race engineer] made some great moves and had the car working well in traffic in full race trim. I feel really good. I think we got as much as you could ever imagine you would get accomplished in one 30-minute and one 45-minute session, and now we can just keep dialing it in tomorrow morning."
