Miami Race Marks Start of New Driver/Team Partnership

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Vitor Meira and Panther Racing are now one day away from a new beginning, starting with the Toyota Indy 300 at Homestead Miami Speedway. Meira, after rebounding from a practice crash, qualified 19th for the race and is prepared for his debut with a championship team.

Vitor ran a top speed of 213.932 mph, 24.2892 seconds, just one tick behind third-generation driver Marco Andretti, a favorite for the season's Rookie of the Year award. Meira will be looking to claim Panther Racing's third victory at Homestead Miami Speedway, after back-to-back victories here in 2001 and 2002.

Coverage of the race starts Sunday at 3:45 p.m. (EST) on ABC with radio coverage available through the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio Channel 175.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"Everybody is happy here with what we have accomplished this weekend. The main thing is to be happy when we leave tomorrow. This time was not the best and it does not reflect how hard the Panther guys have worked this weekend, but every time we are at the track we continue to improve and improve. We still have some progress to make, but I know we will be there in the race tomorrow."
