HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- A morning rain delay wasn't enough to stop both Panther drivers from posting quick laps during the first day of practice at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Tomas Scheckter -- in his second year with Panther -- finished the day with the third quickest lap in the field. His teammate Tomas Enge was also very fast and landed in the 11th spot on the final speed chart.

Scheckter's quick lap of 213.025 mph, 25.0957 seconds was recorded in the afternoon session, as the field ran in large packs late in the day. Enge, who is still gaining valuable experience on oval courses, was right in the middle of some of the tight packs and finished with a top lap of 211.775 mph, 25.2438 seconds.

Tomas Scheckter:

"Our time today just proves the hard work Chevy put into this program during the offseason. We hardly even touched the car this afternoon. Everybody wants to see how their car runs in dirty air, and I think it's going to be a lot tighter on Sunday than it was here last year. I can't wait for the race, I want to put that Pennzoil car back in victory lane."

Tomas Enge:

"I'm starting to get more and more confident in these cars on the ovals. I need to run around in the pack lap, after lap, after lap. But every lap I am getting better. For the first time in these cars, I'm starting to enjoy this. The car was much better in the afternoon session, and I'm sure it will be even better tomorrow. "
