Firestone Firehawk Race Tires Supplied:
* 764 dry-condition slicks
* Each car receives eight sets (32 total tires) for the race weekend
* Previously used at the Homestead open test this February this spec is new for the 2007 season and was designed to provide increased grip.
Quote from Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "Like everyone else in the IndyCar® Series, we have been eagerly awaiting this weekend for over six months. Firestone Racing is more than ready for the start of the 2007 season. Throughout preseason testing, the Firestone Firehawks ran with no issues, so we are certain that as drivers begin this season's battle, tires are one factor they can rely on. In fact, they have already run these same tires at this track earlier this year, which gives them and us a lot of confidence. And what better place to kick off the competition than Homestead-Miami Speedway under the lights for the first time!"
Firestone Performance Award: This $10,000 prize commemorates Firestone's status as the only tire manufacturer to have participated in every IndyCar® Series race, and it is given to the driver who leads the lap number corresponding to the cumulative number of races in series history. The XM Satellite Radio Indy 300 is the 135th IndyCar® Series race, so the Firestone Performance Award will go to the driver who leads lap number 135 of 200.
