(Indianapolis, IN) -- Heritage Motorsports will test Formula One veteran, Johnny Herbert, on Thursday, September 6, at the Texas Motor Speedway.   The test will give Herbert his first look at the high-banked one and a half mile track, which will be the site of his first ever oval track race on September 16.  Herbert will test and race with an Infiniti engine.

This marks the second time Heritage Motorsports and Herbert have teamed up on the track this season. The pair conducted a successful test last month at the Kentucky Speedway, where Herbert ran the car at over 214 miles per hour.   That test was Herbert's first time in an IRL car, and his speed would have qualified him for the front row for the race at that venue.

This will be the third test for Heritage Motorsports with the Infiniti Indy 35-A engine. In addition to the test in Kentucky, current Heritage Motorsports driver Jeff Ward ran laps at the Chicagoland Speedway in August.

Adding Herbert, a three time Formula One winner, to the team's roster allows Heritage to explore its options for the 2002 season. Herbert will join the team's full time driver, Jeff Ward, on the starting grid. Ward, who is coming off his best finish of fourth this season in Chicago last week, will also be participating in tomorrow's test. His experience on the demanding oval, which has recently been resurfaced, will greatly help Herbert. This test will be only the third time Herbert has run on an oval.

Heritage Motorsports is a first year team owned by the legendary Mecom and Rathmann families. With over 100 years of racing experience, Heritage Motorsports brings a unique appreciation to open wheel racing. The team has recently teamed up with Farm Aid for a nationwide awareness promotion, and is pursuing sponsorship opportunities for next season.
