GORDEN PASSES IRL ROOKIE TEST FOR TRUSCELLI RACING
FOUNTAIN, Colo. - Greg Gorden of Colorado Springs completed his Pep Boys Indy Racing League rookie test session Friday at Pikes Peak International Raceway and passed with flying colors for Truscelli Team Racing.
"The test felt great," Gorden said. "It's been a long time coming for me."
Equally excited was team owner Joe Truscelli.
"We share a dream and a goal, and it looks like it's coming true," said Truscelli of Colorado Springs. "We believe in Greg's driving abilities. We knew he would pass the driving test.
"We have a lot of work ahead of us before the Orlando race but our goal is to be one of the 28 cars on the grid. We are very optimistic about the 1999 IRL season."
The 1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League opens at Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando on Jan. 24. The IRL visits PPIR on June 25-27 and Aug. 28-29.
While Gorden and Truscelli are new to the IRL, they are not new to racing.
They have been competing on the American IndyCar Series (AIS) this season and have one event remaining on Oct. 24 in Birmingham, Ala. Gorden enters that race in second place in driver standings, and Truscelli is in contention for Rookie of the Year.
Gorden and Truscelli extended their appreciation to G-Force for providing the track time for the test and PDM Racing for providing the race car and crew.
"I have to give a special thanks to Joe Truscelli for giving me this opportunity," Gorden said. "PPIR is a first class facility and we're proud to make it our home track."
