BRASELTON, GA, March 11, 2004 - Veteran Mexican driving ace Adrian Fernandez has joined the Indy Racing League's IndyCar Series effective today and will campaign a Panoz G Force/Honda/Firestone entry in the 15 IndyCar Series events remaining on the 2004 calendar. Fernandez, 40, is the co-owner of the #55 Panasonic/ARTA Panoz G Force/Honda entry driven by Japanese rookie Kosuke Matsuura.
"The news that Adrian Fernandez is joining the Indy Racing League is big," noted David Bowes, CEO of Elan Motorsports Technologies, maker of the Panoz G Force chassis designed and built in the United States. "I expect we have not yet seen all the fall-out that may result from this decision," he noted.
"Adrian will be tremendously beneficial to the IRL paddock in many different ways, and I join with everyone else in extending a huge IRL welcome to him."
Fernandez Racing and Adrian Fernandez will join IndyCar Series competition next weekend at Phoenix International Raceway, site of the Indy 200 Copper World Classic. Fernandez makes his home in nearby Paradise Valley, AZ.
"We are extremely excited to once again have our team's efforts focused on one championship with includes the Indianapolis 500," said team co-owner and managing director Tom Anderson. "It is an understatement to say we have a lot of work to do in the next 11 days," Fernandez added. "I'm sure there will be challenges but we have a very experienced team in both Fernandez Racing and Super Aguri Fernandez Racing and will be able help each other."
Fernandez Racing and Super Aguri Fernandez Racing have three Panoz G Force chassis at their disposal and will utilize one for each driver and a single spare at the Indy 200 Copper World Classic March 19-21.
