INDY FANFEST RETURNS FOR FOURTH YEAR; VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 19, 1998 - Volunteers are being sought for Indy FanFest, a family-oriented racing theme park on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during May.

The 13-day event makes its fourth appearance at the Speedway and will take place May 10-17 (practice and qualifications) and May 20-24 (race week). FanFest is located in the infield next to the Hall of Fame Museum and includes interactive activities, live entertainment, and driver autograph sessions.

"More than 500 volunteers commit their time to this unique attraction, which has become a popular addition to the Greatest Spectacle in Racing," said Lee Gardner, Indy FanFest's executive director. "Volunteers form the backbone of FanFest, and we and all FanFest patrons appreciate their time and talents."

Volunteers who want to be a part of the exciting FanFest atmosphere may call the Volunteer Hotline at (317) 487-8710 to receive their volunteer information packet. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, including hosting attractions and assisting with event operations. Volunteers can also become a part of FanFest by interacting with the crowd while dressed as drivers and race officials.

All Indy FanFest volunteers receive a terrific benefits package for working a minimum of three shifts at the theme park. Highlights of this package include an official Indy FanFest shirt and hat, food vouchers, and a Thank You party during race week. An additional benefits package is available for those volunteers who work more than six shifts.

The park provides fun-filled entertainment for all ages and is free with admission to the track. Interactive attractions include the very popular children's "Mini Indy" pedal car race on a miniature Indy oval, and "Lap Leader," where guests can compete in interactive race car simulators. FanFest park will showcase a variety of live acts daily, including high school marching bands and choral groups from around the state as well as local rock and country acts. Other attractions include racing and automotive displays, retail booths, and a food court.
