IRL IndyCar Series teams prepare for Toyota Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

MIAMI, FL (2/18/03) -Michael Andretti of Andretti-Green Racing turned a lap of 207.378 mile-per-hour to post the fastest speed in day two of the IRL IndyCar Series Open Test at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Twenty-two IndyCar Series drivers in all turned a total of 2,320 laps Tuesday as they prepared for the Toyota Indy 300, the IndyCar Series season-opener set for February 28 - March 2.

Gil de Ferran of Marlboro Team Penske finished second fastest on the day with a speed of 206.756 mph, the top lap of the morning session. Scott Sharp of Kelley Racing was third fastest with a speed of 206.230 mph.

Andretti, who will retire as a driver following this year's Indianapolis 500, will race for the final time in South Florida at the Toyota Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The veteran driver feels ready for the March 2nd race.

"This was a good two days for us," said Andretti. "We learned a lot. We still have to improve things a little bit, but overall we're pretty good. We're ready for the season to begin. The team has speed. We just need to make it a little more comfortable for the race. We're ready, basically. We're just as good as anyone else out there."

Helio Castroneves of Marlboro Team Penske was fourth fastest (206.152 mph) on Tuesday. Tony Kanaan (204.958 mph) and Dario Franchitti (204.536 mph) were fifth and sixth fastest respectively giving Andretti-Green Racing three of the top six spots on Tuesday.

There were two incidents during Tuesday's afternoon session. Rookie A.J. Foyt IV was unhurt and cleared to drive after hitting the outside retaining wall in Turn 2. A few minutes later, Buddy Rice brushed the outside wall exiting Turn 2 and was also unhurt.
