Matsuura Qualifies Eighth at Chicagoland

Kosuke Matsuura will make his third career start at Chicagoland Speedway from the fourth row of the grid after qualifying this afternoon for the PEAK Antifreeze Indy 300. Matsuura claimed the sixth and ninth-fastest times in the two morning practice sessions, and ended the day with a qualifying run only 0.1452 seconds off of the second row.

Tomorrow's 200-lap event on the 1.5-mile tri-oval will close the books on the 2006 IndyCar Series season. Matsuura has claimed his career-best result to date of fourth on Kentucky's 1.5-mile oval and has finished nine of his 18 career 1.5-mile starts in the top 10. He has recorded six top-nine drives to date this season, claiming his best result of sixth at Homestead.

Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "This was our last qualifying session of the year and I think the team did a really good job. I felt the car was really good in the first outing this morning, especially in traffic, but we couldn't find a really good speed for qualifying. For traffic in the race, we have quite a good setup and I am really comfortable to drive in the traffic. I expect a lot for tomorrow. Hopefully, we can finish in the top five and make some points."
