Kelley Racing teams have solid practice day at Chicagoland Speedway for Delphi Indy 300.

JOLIET, IL -- September 6, 2002 - Kelley Racing drivers Scott Sharp, Al Unser, Jr. and Tony Renna gained valuable knowledge for both their qualifying and race setups today as practice opened for Sunday's Delphi Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway.

Qualifying is set for 10:00 AM Saturday morning with the green flag flying for the race Sunday at noon. The 200 lap event will be televised live on ABC.

Scott Sharp Quotes for September 6, 2002-Chicagoland Speedway-

Delphi INDY 300- Joliet, IL- " The car was handling great all day, unfortunately we were not getting the horsepower we wanted. The #8 Delphi Crew is changing the engine tonight and I am looking forward to a better engine tomorrow. Hopefully, we can qualify well for Delphi tomorrow, I would really like to start at the front for them."

"The crew took out some down force and the car picked up a little speed, but the engine just all together does not have the horsepower that we are content with, and that is why they are changing it for tomorrow's qualifying."

Tony Renna Quotes for September 6, 2002- Chicagoland Speedway

Delphi INDY 300-Joliet, IL- "The # 78 Kruse/HomeMed Special car gave me a really good speed this afternoon, which was great considering this morning's practice we were having some off sets of the gearing. The track was a bit slippery though because of the tires that the ARCA cars use. Their tire rubber doesn't mesh well with our Firestone/Firehawk tires so it creates a slippery give on the track. But the Kruse/HomeMed Special car felt good, we ran some race-style strategies and I think tomorrow's practice we can gain some more speed and be ready for the Qualification."

Al Unser, Jr. Quotes for September 6, 2002 -- Chicagoland Speedway

Delphi INDY 300 -- Joliet, IL -- "The #7 Corteco/Bryant car is good. We had the opportunity to work on both qualifying and race setup today during both practice sessions, which is the big advantage to the three-day race weekends. My Kelley Racing crew brought me a good car with a great setup under it here to Chicagoland. We were able to make numerous changes to try during the time of day closest to when we will actually run the race. This is really a great facility. It is fast and smooth which will make for close, fast racing. We will have a very good car Sunday and may actually qualify better than we have recently. The biggest variable of the weekend since it looks like the weather is going to be perfect, is how our cars and our Firestone tires respond to the track after the ARCA cars run and the different rubber they lay down. It didn't seem to be quite the issue it is at some other tracks but I feel we have enough head start on our setup to make the necessary adjustments even though it was a little slippery after their practice today."
