Curb/Agajanian/Boat striving For win at Chicagoland.
In the film "The Fast and the Furious," Vin Diesel's character Dom states, "Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning."
Billy Boat would agree. With only two races left on the Indy Racing League's 2002 schedule, the CURB/Agajanian/Boat Indy Racing team is striving for a win any way they can get it.
"Obviously these next two races are very important for the CURB Records team," says Boat. "We've been working hard and have seen flashes of success, but have yet to be able to put all the pieces together and really make it happen. We're hoping that Chicagoland [Speedway], with its 1½-mile layout, our Infiniti engine and the experience of our team, will be the right combination and we'll really be able to capitalize on the package of equipment that we have."
As the team heads to the Joliet, IL for this weekend's Delphi Indy 300, they recognize the pressure that's hanging over their heads. Boat is currently 36 points short of the Top 10 driver point standings. Good finishes at Chicagoland and the Texas Motor Speedway would ensure the team that important Top 10 final ranking.
"Winding down to the end of the year, clearly we have a lot of sponsorship negotiations going on and it would be great to win at least one of the remaining races. It would give us some momentum and carry us through the season and on into 2003."
The Delphi Indy 300 can be seen live on ABC beginning at 1:00pm EDT on Sunday, September 8. "Indy Racing 2Day" pre-race coverage starts at noon EDT on ESPN2. Practice begins on Friday, September 6th with Qualifying and final practice on Saturday, September 7th. As always, live timing and scoring of all on-track activity can be found on www.indyracing.com.
