Fontana, CA: Richie Hearn qualified 19th and will start 18th in the Yamaha Indy 400 from the California Speedway. Hearn turned a best lap of 216.798 MPH in his #99 Sam Schmidt Motorsports Racing Special.

"The car just didn't pull, " said Hearn. "We had to change a motor between the morning practice and qualifying and I don't know what happened. It's a shame. We were really fast all weekend and I'm sure we had a top 10 car or better. We'll see what we do in the final practice and hopefully we'll be able to be right for the race. It's going to be a long race, so we just need to be there at the end."

Hearn lost the clutch in the morning practice and subsequently had to change the motor between sessions.

Hearn's speed was 19th fastest, but Robbie Buhl who had qualified 5th impacted the turn one wall after his qualifying run and has not been cleared to drive.

The Yamaha Indy 400 from the California Speedway can be seen on ESPN at 3:30 p.m. EST Sunday March 24th.
