Scott Dixon admitted to following the success of Team New Zealand in the America's Cup competition. Although Dixon thinks sailing is silly, "at this level it's pretty cool," he said. When asked if he sailed, Dixon replied, "When I'm at the wheel of a boat, I prefer to have a motor."

Torrential rain ended any hopes of holding IndyCar Series qualifying on Friday night. The USAC National Sprint Car race was postponed until 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The rain was so heavy that the infield media center experienced a unique series of weepers that sprinkled journalists as they plied their trade.

For the second consecutive week, Vitor Meira suffered a suspension failure. Meira's front suspension collapsed during the Iowa race as he was braking to enter the pits. Meira experienced the same failure during practice at Richmond on Friday, sending his Panther Racing Dallara into the Turn 3 wall. Meira climbed form the car without assistance before being checked and released from the infield care center.

As the result of being the only rookie entered in three IndyCar Series events to date, Milka Duno leads the Bombardier Learjet Rookie of the Year standings, 57-10 over Phil Giebler. Giebler competed in one event, the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500, where he was awarded rookie of the year honors.

Several NASCAR drivers are represented at Richmond this weekend as they own USAC teams that will be running in support events to Saturday night's IndyCar Series race. Tony Stewart Racing is fielding two sprint cars in USAC competition this year with Levi Jones driving the No. 20 and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the No. 21. Jones leads the USAC National Sprint Car point standings after notching 4 victories and 10 top-10 finishes. Kasey Kahne also owns two sprint cars with the driving duties assigned to Kevin Swindell and Brady Bacon. Jason Leffler's sprint car will be handled by Damion Gardner this weekend. Carl Edwards' Silver Crown car will have Cameron Dodson behind the wheel.
