Behind the Barriers: Notes from the SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond International Raceway, Friday June 27, 2003

Tony Kanaan's Honda-powered Dallara is sporting a special livery featuring the Hulk. Action Performance Companies, in cooperation with Marvel Enterprises and Universal Pictures, has arranged to have Kanaan's car painted in a special green and purple scheme, which features Hulk graphics. The program will also run in NASCAR, NHRA and World of Outlaws. Kanaan's sponsor 7-11 is also involved in promoting the new Hulk movie.

After making contact with Greg Ray during practice, Dan Wheldon was paid a visit by Brian Barnhart. After walking the length of pit lane, Barnhart stopped at Wheldon's pit, leaned into the cockpit of the Klein Tools car and offered a few words of advice.

Bryan Herta joined Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers on stage on Thursday night. Herta, who was recently named as the driver of the No. 27 Andretti Green Racing entry, performed the Sex Pistol's song "Anarchy in the U.K."

Friday evening's final practice session saw four separate single car incidents in less than 30 minutes of track time. Dreyer and Reinbold teammates Robbie Buhl and Sarah Fisher both spun in the same spot coming off turn two. Tora Takagi also spun in turn two making hard contact with the outside retaining wall. Sam Hornish ended the session by sliding his Pennzoil Panther Chevrolet- powered Dallara along the front straight wall after losing control on the exit of turn four.
