Firestone has produced 5,000 tires for the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500. All of them were produced at Firestone's Technical center in Akron, Ohio. The tire, which is the same for all drivers, is the same compound used at Twin Ring Motegi and the open test here last month. While the compound is the same for all tires, teams have a choice between staggers of 33/100th and 43/100th of an inch.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has opened a vault of video treasures, playing classic clips from past 500s on the jumbo TV screens around the track. In one from 1954, Wilbur Shaw is interviewed, telling the audience the track's turns were designed for a speed of 80 mph before mentioning that, "we're going 130 mph" through the corners. In another video dated 1964, Eddie Sachs and Jim Hurtubise discuss the relative merits of front and rear engine cars.

The souvenir program for the 90th running of the Indianapolis 500 is one of the thickest we've ever seen. The Speedway has done a great job with the program, including post cards of past program covers as well as pull out sheets suitable for framing featuring classic covers from past program covers.

Of the 16 brother combinations that have competed in the Indianapolis 500, only two have led laps at the Speedway; Louis and Gaston Chevrolet and Bobby and Al Unser. Brothers Jaques and Buddy Lazier are entered to compete in this year's race.

Andretti Green Racing has entered five cars this year's Indianapolis 500. That's happened only twice in the past. In 1997 Team Scandia entered seven cars and in 1923 Cliff Durant entered five.
