The final day of qualifying arrived at the Speedway with little chance that rides would materialize to allow for bumping. Nevertheless several drivers continued to pursue their dream of competing in the 500. Thiago Medeiros circled Gasoline Alley stopping to talk to every team boss he encountered. Jeff Simmons spent the day attached to his mobile phone while P.J. Jones stayed close to the Beck Motorsports/Curb Records team; the he competed with last year. Only one driver was rewarded with an opportunity to run as Felipe Giaffone was towed to the pit lane for practice with less than three hours before the gun would sound to end the day. Giaffone made the best of his opportunity, bumping Arie Luyendyk Jr. from the field to gain a starting position in his fifth 500.
