Scott Sharp won the Casino Magic 500 by less than a wheel over Robby McGehee. Sharp started 12th and ran with the leaders all day; however, the lead pack was always within 2 seconds of each other. Running green flag for most of the race, Sharp and Dismore benefited from a well timed yellow with about fourty laps to go. Each driver was able to pit under yellow while most of the other leaders had pitted earlier under green. Sharp was challenged the last 8 laps, but was able to hold on by less than a car length. Dismore lost a cylinder on the last restart, but was able to hold on to 6th place.
Mark Dismore #28 OnStar/GM BuyPower/Bryant Dallara: "That was the most fun I think I've had with my clothes on! Now I know what those NASCAR guys feel after Daytona. The OnStar car was great all day, I think we would have had something for Sharp at the end. After that last restart, I think we lost a cylinder, but that's just one of those things that happens. Comptech built me a great motor, and I still know those guys are the best out there. We're coming back in October, and the OnStar car will be there then."
Scott Sharp #8 Delphi Automotive Systems/Futaba/Worldcom Dallara: "This is incredible, by far the best race of any kind I've ever seen! The Delphi car was good all day, and the tires were awesome. Firestone was a big part of the reason everyone was able to run that close. No one could break away, it looked like Daytona or something. Tom Kelley helped call the strategy, and the awesome mileage Comptech gave us was the key. I've also got to thank my crew; the Delphi team did great all day."
The next race in the 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light Series is Sunday June 18th at Pikes Peak International Raceway, and can be seen on ABC at 4 p.m. ET.
