Harrah's Entertainment Joins Forces with Racing Legend A.J. Foyt World's Largest Casino Company to Sponsor IRL and NASCAR
MEMPHIS, March 8, 1999 - Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. and A.J. Foyt Enterprises announced today that they have reached a definitive agreement for the casino company to sponsor two cars for the Indy Racing League (IRL) and an agreement in principle for one car for the NASCAR racing season.
Building on a relationship with A.J. Foyt Enterprises that started in 1996, Harrah's will be a sponsor of both Kenny Brack and Billy Boat on the IRL circuit and a sponsor of Ken Schrader on the NASCAR circuit. Details of the sponsorship include logos on the drivers' cars and uniforms as well as personal appearances at the different Harrah's casinos across the country.
"Auto racing is the fastest growing and most popular sport in the country today. Our customers are big enthusiasts, so we carefully looked at marketing opportunities that would link us - and our customers - to popular drivers and their teams," said Phil Satre, Harrah's chairman and CEO. "This partnership reaches beyond the tracks to our casinos. We think it's a win/win for all of the organizations involved."
The sponsorship kicked off in Orlando with the first race of the 1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League and will continue throughout the season. Harrah's had sponsored A.J. Foyt Enterprises in 1996/1997 at the IRL race in Las Vegas and expanded the involvement in 1998 at the Indianapolis 500 and the remaining IRL races.
"Harrah's and A.J. Foyt have both carried on a tradition of winning," said Foyt. "I know with this partnership, that tradition will continue for many years to come."
