PEP BOYS INDY RACING LEAGUE WILL OPEN 1999 SEASON AT WALT DISNEY WORLD SPEEDWAY ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 24
INDIANAPOLIS, April 28, 1998 - The first race of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League 1999 season will be on Sunday, January 24 at Walt Disney World Speedway, it was announced today. "We are pleased to return to Florida for the kickoff of our 1999 season, and we believe the move to a Sunday will be beneficial for our fans," said Leo Mehl, executive director of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League. In addition, the 1999 race will take place one week before the Super Bowl. The first three annual races at Walt Disney World Speedway were conducted on the Saturday before the Super Bowl.
"Walt Disney World is a wonderful place to start our season," Mehl said. "It is good for our fans and for our drivers. This is where the first Indy Racing League race was conducted, and we look forward to being back."
The Walt Disney World Speedway is located at the Walt Disney World Resort. The track was built and is operated by IMS Events, a subsidiary of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation.
