INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 - IRL Infiniti Pro Series driver Tom Wood underwent surgery Aug. 19 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to repair fractures to his back, according to Dr. Kevin Scheid, an orthopedic surgeon from OrthoIndy.

Scheid said Wood has been upgraded to fair condition and is scheduled to have surgery on his left ankle later this week.

Wood, from Calgary, Alberta, was involved in an accident on Lap 52 of the Kentucky 100 Infiniti Pro Series event on Aug. 16 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky.

IRL IndyCarTM Series driver Vitor Meira also underwent surgery Aug. 19 in Indianapolis to repair a fracture to his right wrist, said Scheid.

Meira, from Brasilia, Brazil, was involved in an accident Aug. 16 during practice for the Belterra Casino Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway.
