Medeiros to test with Dreyer & Reinbold at Kentucky
(Sparta, KY) The recently crowned 2004 Menards Infiniti Pro Series Champion Thiago Medeiros has been invited to test an IRL IndyCar Series car at Kentucky Speedway on Friday, October 8 with the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team.
Medeiros, who has won a record seven poles and five races in the Pro Series in 2004 on his way to the championship, had previously tested with the IRL's Patrick Racing. He passed his IRL rookie test at Chicago last August.
"Everybody has been asking me what I'm going to do next year," said Medeiros. "The IRL cars are a little different with more downforce and grip. I enjoy the way they handle but it's important for me to get some seat time so I can work with the car and learn the set-ups. It's been a solid year in the Pro Series, thanks to the preparation of my team (Sam Schmidt Motorsports), but I want to keep planning for the future."
"Thiago is a very talented young driver who's done an impressive job in winning the IPS championship," said Dennis Reinbold, co-owner of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. "We hope to use this opportunity to work with him in getting some miles in the car and see where the future expansion and development of our team may take us."
Prior to running the Menards IPS in 2003 and 2004, Medeiros raced in the South American Formula 3 Series, posting seven wins and eight poles, and was also the 1998 Brazilian Formula Chevy Champion. The 22-year-old Sao Paulo native began driving go-karts at age eight.
