Alex Lloyd by the numbers. If Alex Lloyd wins Saturday's portion of the Watkins Glen Indy Pro Series doubleheader, he will have earned his seventh victory of the 2007 season in car No. 7 on the seventh day of the seventh month. Round 2 of the doubleheader is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
With the busy summer schedule, Indy Car Series drivers, teams and officials don't get many weekends off. On August 18th several personalities normally seen in the IndyCar Series garage area will be racing in a charity event at the Monterey Historic Automobile Races.
The lineup features six Indianapolis 500 winners including Rahal Letterman Racing team co-owner Bobby Rahal, four time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser Sr. and his brother Bobby Unser, Johnny Rutherford, Parnelli Jones and Emerson Fittipaldi. They will face off against sports car legends Vic Elford and 5-time 24 Hours of Lemans winner Derek Bell. Ove Andersson, winner of the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally, will also compete.
Each driver will be competing in a race prepared Scion tC for a prize of $25,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice.
Each year, more than 375 of the finest historic race and sports cars are entered in 14 race groups that span nearly every era of motorsports history. The 2007 Monterey Historic Races will highlight Indy Roadsters as the featured marquee, bringing to life the original open-wheelers and returning the spirit of Indy to the Central California Coast.
Coming into this event each driver was to receive 8 sets of slick Firestone Firehawk tires to use in dry conditions. Drivers participating in Firestone Fast Six qualifying were to be provided with one additional set of slicks for that session. After learning more about the tire wear in the newly paved sections, Turns 1, 5 and 6, Firestone has agreed to provide teams with an extra set of dry tires. In addition to the dry tires, each team will receive 4 sets of rain tires.
Official track distance for timing and scoring is 3.37-miles.
