QUALIFICATIONS SET FIELD FOR BALTIMORE GRAND PRIX; CARPENTER TO START 27TH
BALTIMORE, MD (September 3, 2011)- Ed Carpenter, of IZOD IndyCar ® Series team Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR), has temporarily landed in Baltimore, Maryland racing his No. 67 yellow and black Dollar General Honda powered Dallara, on the city's streets, while participating in the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix.
Carpenter, who will be making his third non-oval start of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season this Sunday on the streets of Baltimore, located just an hour north of our Nation's capital, will be one of 28 drivers competing on the 2.04-mile temporary street course, which borders Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
The 30-year old, who attended a Baltimore Orioles game upon his arrival to the city Thursday afternoon, took to the track surface early this afternoon for a qualifying session. Carpenter, who has consistently improved throughout the weekend, clocked a lap of 1:24.5361, good enough for the 27th starting position. KV Racing Technology's Takuma Sato will be starting alongside Carpenter in Row 14.
"I'm not really happy with today," said Carpenter. "It was a little bit weird going into qualifying, not really knowing what the track was going to be like after the rain. We made up time overnight, but then in qualifying we didn't really go any quicker than we did the practice before. This is not what I was hoping for personally; I was hoping to pick up more time and get closer to the guys we're racing with. We've got a lot of work to do for tomorrow."
