Firestone Tire Performance Recap: Firestone Racing engineers brought more durable left-side tires to Iowa than a year ago, pairing them with the same right-side tire specification used earlier this month at Texas. The result was an overall spec that delivered grip and consistency throughout the stint, allowing for tremendous racing all through the field, all night long. Marco Andretti captured his first IndyCar Series win in nearly five years.
From race winner Marco Andretti, #26 Team Venom Andretti Autosport Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "This big drought made me appreciate what we have here in IndyCar racing. The competition is just unbelievable nowadays, which makes me feel that much better that we made it here (to victory lane). The Firestone tires were fantastic. They were the same from lap two to lap 70 in a run for me. It was perfect."
From second-place Tony Kanaan, #82 GEICO-KV Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "The tires were very good. We changed the left-side tires for this year and they lasted a lot longer. If you look at it, the tires are the only thing we don't have to worry about. When it says 'Firestone' on the side, it means no worries."
From Joe Barbieri, Manager, Firestone Racing: "The racing these past few weeks on the ovals has been downright incredible. We weren't sure whether the drivers would be able to duplicate it tonight at Iowa, but they did that and more. This is what IndyCar Series is all about. From the front of the pack to the rear, there was constant passing and excitement for the whole race. The drivers clearly had the confidence in this new Firestone tire combination for Iowa to make those moves, and the Firehawks came through once again. A great crowd showed up tonight, they deserved a great race, and that's exactly what they saw."
Firestone "Tire-ific" Move of the Race: This $10,000 prize is awarded after each IndyCar Series race to the driver best utilizing his or her Firestone tires to make a bold, dramatic move during the event. Nominees from today's race are: Marco Andretti, for his brilliant pass on lap 232 for first place that led to his race win; Helio Castroneves, who recovered from being a lap down to finish seventh; and Scott Dixon, for a stellar drive that saw him start 23rd and finish third. Fans can vote this week at www.indycar.com to determine the winner.
