DREYER & REINBOLD RACING QUALIFIED FOR THE INDYCAR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESENTED BY HONDA
Las Vegas, Nevada (October 14, 2011) - Dreyer & Reinbold Racing qualified for the INDYCAR World Championships Presented by Honda at Las Vegas Motor Speedway today. The team's drivers Townsend Bell (No. 22 Dad's Root Beer), Davey Hamilton (No. 11 HP) and Ana Beatriz (No. 24 Ipiranga) qualified 22nd, 24th and 30th respectively.
Townsend Bell, who is filling in for the injured Justin Wilson, qualified the highest of the three DRR pilots. The California native drove for the team two weeks ago at Kentucky Speedway, where he earned an 11th place finish. The team found some speed from the afternoon practice session and made changes to the No. 22 Dad's Root Beer machine, which helped to point the team in the right direction. Today, he qualified in 22nd position with an average lap speed of 219.942 mph.
Davey Hamilton got back behind the wheel of the No. 11 HP "Everybody On" car as he qualified for Sunday's race. The session didn't exactly go the way the Idaho native had hoped, but the No. 11 crew made progressive improvements to the No. 11 HP machine. Hamilton secured the 24th spot on the grid for tomorrow's event with an average lap speed of 219.493 mph.
Today's session didn't exactly go the way Ana Beatriz had hoped. The team found some speed from the morning practice session and made changes to the No. 24 Ipiranga machine. Unfortunately, so did the other teams and Beatriz didn't qualify as far up the grid as she would have liked. As a result, she will start 30th for Sunday's race. Her two lap qualifying average was 218.153 mph.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track for INDYCAR World Championships Presented by Honda at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 16th. The race telecast will air live on Sunday, October 16th at 3:00 pm (EST) on ABC. The race will air live on the IMS Radio Network, XM channel 94, and Sirius channel 212. What they have to say...
Townsend Bell, No. 22 Dad's Root Beer: "The Dad's Root Beer car is great and the guys did a great job. That's as fast as we've run in testing and practice and that's everything she's got. I'm really proud of all of the work the team has done to improve on Kentucky. In Kentucky, we were at the back and here we're kind of middle-back. That's progress, and that's all you can hope for in this business. Sunday will be stressful for everyone, but it's a proper sendoff for this car to have an old school IndyCar gladiator shootout. It will be fun for the fans."
Ana Beatriz, No. 24 Ipiranga: "The Ipiranga car was good, we just didn't have the speed we were hoping for. We need to figure out what is going on and improve for Sunday. Hopefully, we can work our way up the grid. It will be a long day and we just need to stay out of trouble."
Davey Hamilton, No. 11 HP: "We had some problems today. We didn't have a good practice session because we had some heating problems. For having the issues that we had, we were still pretty close to Townsend, which was good. Obviously, we would like to be further up the grid, there's no question about that. It's going to be an interesting race. I'll be honest, I didn't get a lot of time in traffic so we'll trust Townsend's race setup and go see what happens. For four days here and only getting an hour and 45 minutes of run time is tough, especially since I don't have that many laps in this car in general. It'll be okay though, it's all about having fun."
