Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Finished 12th And 23rd In Iowa
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing had a day filled with ups and downs for the Iowa Corn Indy 250 in Newton, Iowa today. The team's drivers, Justin Wilson (No. 22 Dad's Root Beer) and Ana Beatriz (No. 24 Ipiranga), fought the twists and turns that the .875-mile oval sent their way and finished 12th and 23rd respectively.
As the green flag dropped, both Justin Wilson (No. 22 Dad's Root Beer) and Ana Beatriz (No. 24 Ipiranga) were off to a very good beginning. The pair started 12th and 18th respectively and had 28 clean laps before the first caution . As the yellow came out on Lap 28, that didn't disrupt their rhythm. Both cars pitted on Lap 26 for fuel and tires only. The duo immediately got back into the groove on the Lap 34 restart. Both drivers were running a steady race and quickly moved up the grid, but as drivers started to jockey for position and make it through the infamous bump in Turn 2, things began to change.
From the first re-start on, the race delivered plenty of action for the remainder of the race. Fortunately, that didn't hold Justin Wilson back. He soldiered through the starts and re-starts like a pro. All night long, going back and forth in positions seemed to be the big thing, but the Brit stayed patient, hung in there and just worked on picking people off. Wilson found opportunity on the restarts and in the pits to help him gain track position as well. After the final pit stop, Wilson filtered out to P10 and for the re-start, on Lap 200, he lost a few positions and was unable to gain them back. He brought the car home safely in 12th position.
It was a different story for rookie Ana Beatriz, who really impressed in the beginning as she gained positions and experience. The Brazilian held her own and battled her way on the start and re-start, but after the first pit stop is when everything changed for Beatriz. She moved up the grid from 18th to 13th and continued to keep picking people off, but unfortunately, on Lap 46 she would suffer an early exit from the race when she got loose through Turn 2 making contact with Mike Conway and then hitting the wall, which ended her day early. Beatriz finished the race with a 23rd place result.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing heads back to Indianapolis for a week to rest, regroup and prepare the cars before heading to Toronto for the Honda Indy Toronto on June 12th. For more updates on the team, please visit www.dreyerreinboldracing.com.
What they have to say about the Iowa Corn Indy 250:
Justin Wilson, No. 22 Dad's Root Beer:"It was a long night. I think that we got some good restarts and pit stops. We weren't flowing quite as well as we needed to through the center of the corner. We just tried to hang onto it and get the best result that we could. Now, we will have a break to regroup and get ready for Toronto."
Ana Beatriz, No. 24 Ipiranga: "The start of the race was good. I was patient in the beginning, because I really couldn't pass that many people on the start so I just stayed and hung in there. Our pace was good. It was hard to pass, but we were maintaining our pace and it was the first moment that we got loose. I hit someway, somehow and we lost the rear."
