London, UK – Monday 5th September - Suspension problems forced British IndyCar driver Mike Conway to make two lengthy pit stops during Sunday’s race, putting a halt to his charge through the field and dropping him to the back of the pack.

Conway had been on the pace all weekend at the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix; regularly running in the top five and pulling together the eighth quickest lap during Saturday’s qualifying session.

Ahead of the race start, the Andretti Autosport driver was promoted to P7 following Castroneves’ warm-up accident with Kanaan, which saw both drivers forced to start from the back of the grid in their spare cars.

Conway made a good start and was up to P6 in the opening stages of the race but after just ten laps it was clear that the British driver was struggling with an issue with the car and began dropping back through the field.

On lap 28 the Andretti Autosport team brought Conway in from P19 and they were able to identify problems with the car’s suspension. Attempts were made to fix the issue and Conway was sent back out on track.

Eight laps later Conway had to return to the pits still suffering with the handling of the car. After another lengthy pit stop the British driver returned to the race but, with the car stil suffering from suspension problems, was unable to make any progress through the field and crossed the finish line in P23.

"It was obviously a very disappointing day suffering with not just one mechanical failure but two. The car had been looking really strong all weekend. I wasn’t quite able to pull together the perfect lap in qualifying which was frustrating as I think we had a car that could have challenged for pole, but we were confident heading into the race that we’d be able to move up through the field and challenge for a podium. It’s a disappointing end to my first Baltimore Grand Prix but we’ll go away, do our homework, and then we'll regroup for Japan;" commented Mike Conway.

Mike Conway heads to Motegi on 17th September for round sixteen of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series.
