Kimball Scores Career-Best Finish of Ninth at New Hampshire
LOUDON, N.H. (August 14, 2011) – Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing (NNCGR) driver Charlie Kimball finished ninth in the MoveThatBlock.com Indy 225.
Kimball arrived at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the first time along with the rest of the current IZOD IndyCar Series drivers, after the schedule saw a 13-year hiatus from the 1.058-mile oval. The Novo Nordisk team proved to quickly adapt on the New Hampshire track after the No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen qualified 10th, marking Kimball’s career-best starting position on an oval.
Kimball took the green flag for the 225-lap race and immediately found himself escaping an accident during the first laps of the race, which caused him to fall back to 15th-place. The Novo Nordisk team settled into a smooth pace and dodged multiple incidents to move into ninth when the yellow flag came out for rain on lap 215. Due to the incoming inclement weather, INDYCAR officials were forced to call the race, which resulted in a ninth-place finish for Kimball and marked his career-best finish.
With the finish, Kimball maintains third-place in the IZOD IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year point standings and moves to 19th overall.
Up next for Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing is the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway on Sunday, August 28, 2011 (4:00 p.m. ET, VERSUS).
Charlie Kimball: “Another great day for Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing. We had the speed all day, and at one point during that first stint I think the No. 83 Levemir and NovoLog FlexPen car was quickest car on the track. I got caught up early on behind (Marco) Andretti and he was a little erratic, so I had to be careful and unfortunately went a lap down. The yellows for moisture just caught us wrong, but we were quick all day. I can’t wait to go to Sonoma next with two top-10 qualifying efforts and two top-11 finishes in-a-row; it gives the Novo Nordisk team some good momentum to finish out the season.”
