Justin looks forward to Indianapolis 500 qualifying
20-May-2010 - After four days of practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Justin and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are looking ahead to this weekend's qualifying for the 94th running of the Indianapolis 500. The cars took to the track for the first time last Saturday and, apart from Monday's washout when practice was cancelled, they have been running each day since then.
In addition to Justin's regular DRR team-mate Mike Conway (No. 24 Dad's Root Beer), the team is also fielding cars for Tomas Scheckter (No. 23 Mona Vie) and Ana Beatriz (No. 25 Ipiranga).
The early part of this week was focused on race set-up, but later in Wednesday's practice session the team started "trimming out" and preparing the cars for qualifying. Justin's No. 22 Z-Line Designs car logged a total of 35 laps and was the fastest of the four with a speed of 224.302 mph. He was 16th quickest of the 35 drivers out on track on Wednesday.
"Today the car felt great," said Justin. "It's been the same over the last few days - nice and balanced and easy to drive. We just trimmed it out so that we could get closer to the edge and got some quick times. We did one time with a slight tow and came back in and made some slight adjustments. We went back out on a completely clear track and almost matched it within a tenth of a mile an hour. We did a 224.1 mph on our own with nobody around us, so I think that's a good time and will put us in good shape. If we can keep that kind of momentum maybe we can sneak into the high 24's by the time we get to qualifying."
