Mercedes Benz of Houston-Greenway played host to the Houston round of The Yellow Party, hosted by Ryan and Beccy Hunter-Reay’s charity organization Racing For Cancer and presented by Lennar and AutoNation.
There was a silent auction with numerous items up for bid, including signed racing gloves, signed racing boots, signed driving suits and other pit shirts.
However, the item I was bidding on quickly went out of my price range. A GO PUCK mobile battery charger was on starting bid for $25. I bid $35, but unfortunately the bidding went too rich for my blood. Oh well, maybe next time, because I really wanted that thing!
The real meat of the event was in the live auction, which had many interesting items up for bid.
The first item up for bid was a trip to see the first test launch of the Orion space capsule and a tour of Johnson Space Center. That sold for $1,000.
The position of co-driver for Beccy Hunter-Reay in the celebrity kart race sold for $1,000 while the co-driver position for Roger Clemens sold for $800.
A Polaris EBike and a Skip Barber school experience at Laguna Seca in 2015 each sold for $1,600, but the next item sold started to reveal the generosity of the attendees.
The honor of presenting the third place trophy at the second race sold for $1,800, but the second place bidder matched the winning bid, so the third place trophy for race one will also be presented by a Yellow Party bidder.
The last item sold at the auction was a painting done at the party by Bill Patterson. The painting was of the 2014 Indy 500 winning car and the 1961 Indy 500 winning car, driven by their respective drivers, Ryan Hunter-Reay and AJ Foyt. Hunter-Reay signed the painting and Foyt will sign the painting, which sold for $5,250.
As for the GO PUCK charger I bid on, the final bid was $100.
