Heavy rains and standing water on the Parque Anhembi temporary street circuit forced IZOD IndyCar Series race officials to postpone Sunday’s scheduled Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 after 14 laps. The race is scheduled to resume Monday morning at 8 a.m. EDT.

Heavy rain began falling on the circuit shortly before the green flag, but the race got underway as scheduled. However, two separate opening-lap crashes marred the start, followed by several more incidents when the race again went green on Lap 6. Just two laps later, the rain increased to a downpour, leading to the red flag at the end of Lap 9.

Following a rain delay of two and a half hours, officials attempted to restart the race, with the full 26-car field running five more laps behind the Pace Car. But with the rain continuing and conditions not improving, the red flag waved again for the second and final time today with 14 laps completed.

Conditions permitting, on Monday the race will restart on Lap 15, with the remainder of the 75-lap event to be broadcast Monday on Versus at 1 p.m. EDT.
