McDONALD'S DRIVER WILSON QUALIFIED 17TH IN HIS INDYCAR SERIES DEBUT AT THE SEASON-OPENING GAINSCO AUTO INSURANCE INDY 300
Justin Wilson, No. 02 McDonald's Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "The transition has been tough; especially for all of the mechanics and crew that have worked flat out for the last four weeks. I'm very pleased and proud of them for what they've done and I'm also happy to have gotten the first qualifying out of the way. It wasn't quick enough but we are working on the car to make it faster. Right now I am just happy to have made that start and get one qualifying session behind me. We're taking it one step at a time. Every mile and lap we do helps us get closer to our goal of running in the front. The McDonald's car has gone backwards and forwards. The first session went very good but in the afternoon session we had a lot of oversteer and I wasn't very comfortable so for qualifying we managed to get it back to neutral car and it felt very good but I don't think it was that quick. I was just trying to make sure I was flat for all four laps and after that it is a case of it is whatever it is. I ran the shortest distance with the least amount of scrub that I could get away with. I know it's just a case of needing time to work on everything. I have a lot of confidence in the team behind me. We'll get quicker as the season goes on."
