DREYER & REINBOLD RACING GAINSCO AUTO INSURANCE 300 QUALIFYING REPORT

Homestead, Fla.. -- Qualifying for Saturday's 2008 season-opening IndyCar Series race took place on Friday night at the Homestead-Miami Speedway with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing teammates Buddy Rice and Milka Duno qualifying solidly and quietly in the middle of the pack.

Friday night's qualifying session was also the debut of the new qualifying format for the IndyCar Series in which drivers needed to run four laps with their average speed determining their final starting position.

Rice posted a four-lap average of 209.486 mph, slotting him into 13th on the grid.

His teammate, Duno, posted a four-lap average speed of 208.308 mph, earned her the 18th spot in the starting lineup.

Competitors Dan Wheldon and Jay Howard both crashed in their qualifying attempts. Scott Dixon won the pole.

Saturday night's Gainsco Auto Insurance 300 can be seen live in high definition on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. edt. Radio listeners can tune in to the IMS Radio Network.
