Wheldon Overcomes Friday Practice Crash, Qualifies for Rexall Edmonton Indy; Former Indy 500 Winner Looks to Make Climb from Back of Field on City Centre Airport Circuit

EDMONTON, Canada - (July 25, 2009) -- Dan Wheldon and the National Guard Panther Racing team overcame Friday's practice crash and qualified 22nd for tomorrow's Rexall Edmonton Indy at the Edmonton City Centre Airport Circuit. Wheldon, who currently stands sixth in the IndyCar Series championship standings, will look to make the long climb to the front of the field in the 95-lap race.

The team qualified its back-up car following an accident yesterday during the afternoon practice session. Despite missing the entire practice session, Wheldon posted a quick lap of 113.035 mph, 1:02.8369 seconds.

It will mark both Panther and Wheldon's second start on the 14-turn, 1.96-mile circuit, and it will be their 11th start of the 2009 season. The team has already collected three Top Five and eight Top Ten finishes, with a best result of second place in the 93rd Running of the Indianapolis 500.

Dan Wheldon, No. 4 National Guard Dallara Honda

"It was a difficult day. I'm a little baffled as to why we're as far off as we are here. Certainly we're going to take the time we need to look at everything we can to make the No. 4 car better for tomorrow, and to try and get the National Guard car up to the front in the race tomorrow."
