Firestone Firehawk Race Tires Supplied:
* 1,186 dry-condition slicks; each car receives 10 sets (40 tires) for the race weekend. Firestone Fast Six qualifiers receive one additional set of slicks for that session only.
* 560 wet-condition grooved tires; each car receives four sets (16 tires) of rain tires.
Firestone Racing engineers are bringing a new road course dry (slick) tire specification to Edmonton. This specification features the same compound and construction as was previously used at Watkins Glen this season, but with increased tread thickness (gauge) to withstand the high speeds and varying airport track surfaces. The grooved rain tire is the hardest in the Firestone Racing street/road course inventory.
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "Firestone Racing is looking forward to seeing a unified IndyCar Series on the wide-open circuit at Edmonton City Centre Airport. From a fan's perspective, this is a great race to watch - high speeds, high visibility, a wide track that offers ample passing opportunities - Edmonton has it all. Our engineers have three seasons' worth of experience at this track, so they have prepared a tire that is specifically designed to meet the unique demands Edmonton presents."
Firestone "Tire-ific" Move of the Race: This $10,000 prize will be awarded after each IndyCar Series race to the driver who best utilizes his or her Firestone tires to make a bold, dramatic move during the event. It could be relying on the Firehawks' great grip to execute a daring pass, or having the confidence in the tires' durability to run an extra stint on a set to improve position. After each race, Firestone Racing officials submit the top three "Tire-ific" candidates to www.indycar.com, where fans can cast their votes during the ensuing week to determine the winner. The "Tire-ific" winner from last week's Mid-Ohio race (nominees are Justin Wilson, Bruno Junqueira and Scott Dixon) will be named in pre-race ceremonies Saturday.
