DREYER & REINBOLD RACING QUALIFIED 6TH AND 20TH FOR THE HONDA GRAND PRIX OF ST. PETERSBURG
St. Petersburg, FL (March 25, 2011)- Dreyer & Reinbold Racing proved that their hard work has paid off as they had successful results in today's qualifications for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Justin Wilson, pilot of the No. 22 TranSystems machine qualified 6th on the grid for tomorrow's event. His teammate, Ana Beatriz, pilot of the No. 24 Ipiranga car, will start 20th for the race.
Yesterday DRR worked diligently to get Wilson's car just right for qualifying as they dialed it in and tried new things. The changes were successful and the Brit advanced into the Firestone Fast Six. Wilson made his fourth qualifying attempt at the St. Petersburg circuit and battled his way through the sessions. The veteran recorded a time of 1:02.7729 (103.557mph), earning him a 6th place starting position. Wilson qualified 4th last year for the race.
Last season, Wilson earned DRR's best result since team co-owner, Robbie Buhl, won in 2000 at Walt Disney World Speedway, as he came home with 2nd place finishes for the organization in St. Petersburg, Florida and in Long Beach, California. He started competing in the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2008 and since then he has won on a street course (2008 Belle Isle) and a road course (2009 Watkins Glen). Wilson has also advanced to 16 Firestone Fast Six sessions since 2008. Out of those sessions he has qualified in the top-5 ten times. Last season he started 3rd in Brazil, 4th in St. Petersburg, 3rd in Long Beach and 6th in Watkins Glen.
Laps and experience were just what the doctor ordered for Beatriz. This weekend Bia has been able to get more track time under her belt. The Brazilian and DRR have made huge strides in the last two days and as a result she was the highest starting rookie for tomorrow's race. The 26-year old clocked a time of 1:03.8036 (101.562 mph) and will start 20th.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in St. Petersburg, Florida tomorrow. The race telecast will air live tomorrow at 12:30 pm (ET) on ABC. The race will air live on the IMS Radio Network, XM channel 145, and Sirius channel 211. For more updates on the team, please visit www.dreyerreinboldracing.com.
What they have to say about the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg...
Justin Wilson, No. 22 TranSystems:"I think that we stepped up the performance at the right time for qualifying and made it into the Firestone Fast Six, which is a great effort by everyone working on the TranSystems car. I think that was a really good thing. Obviously, once we were there you want to do better. We made a change and it was the wrong way so we will go and study that. I think we are close and we have the car in the window now and I'm hoping for a strong race tomorrow."
Ana Beatriz, No. 24 Ipiranga: "Qualifying was good and we improved a lot from the other sessions. Each day we continue to improve and I'm getting my rhythm in the Ipiranga car, so I'm confident because I will have more time and it will be a long race. Hopefully we can do well. I'm happy that we improved and were able to gain some spots in qualifying."
