DREYER & REINBOLD RACING AND MIKE CONWAY LEAVE FIRST TEST AS FASTEST ROOKIE
HOMESTEAD, Fla - On Wednesday night, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and rookie driver Mike Conway wrapped up their first official testing session together with Conway completing a combined 276 laps over the course of the two-day IndyCar Series Open Test at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The laps were the first for Conway on an oval racing track. The team took part in a private test on Monday to get Conway up to speed comfortably and acclimated to the oval track environment. The running on Tuesday and Wednesday allowed Conway and the #24 crew to make preparations for the upcoming IndyCar Series season.
When the checkered flag flew on Wednesday night, Conway had turned in a best time of 25.4299 seconds for an average speed of 210.225 mph.
Less than eight-tenths separated the fastest driver, former Dreyer & Reinbold driver Ryan Briscoe, from the slowest driver. Briscoe's best lap was 25.1984 seconds, and the slowest driver's best was 25.9180.
>From here, the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing crew will return to Indianapolis to make preparations for its next official testing session, the IndyCar Series open-test at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.
#24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Honda/Dallara Driver Mike Conway "It's all about learning each time I go out - learning about running with traffic, how the tires come in, just things with setup like aero changes, mechanical changes. They all feel quite different. I've really got a feel as to what the car is doing and how it's reacting to each change. I've been learning how to run in different lines and how to react in traffic. Lots learned throughout the test. Each day was another positive step. It was a good test overall. I have to thank the Dreyer & Reinbold guys for the hard work and great job they've done in getting me acclimated to everything. I can't wait to get back on the track again."
Team Owner, Dennis Reinbold "We're all proud of what Mike accomplished in this test. This is probably the most productive test we've ever had. Even though it was Mike's first time on an oval, his approach and craft was like that of a veteran. He did a great job these past three days, and now we can turn our focus to the test in Alabama and see Mike in his element. We made a lot of changes and moves in the off-season, and we saw positive results these last few days. We're really excited about this season."
Team Owner, Robbie Buhl "This test was a good chance for everybody to feel each other out and get ready for the new year. I think Mike did a great job out there every day we ran, and the crew did a good job in the off-season to make progress on our effort. We can walk away from here knowing that we're taking a step in the right direction for the upcoming season."
