Dixon steals the pole away from his teammate for Toronto’s Race 2
Yesterday on the street circuit at the Exhibition Place in Toronto, Franchitti grabbed the pole for today’s first race. In today’s qualifying for the doubleheader event his teammate Dixon set the fastest lap.

Scott Dixon sets a hot lap to earn the Race 2 pole with a time of 58.9686. The Kiwi knocked his teammate off the top spot. Dario Franchitti’s best lap was 59.1905 seconds. The two Target Chip Ganassi Racing drivers will ended up with the front row for Sunday’s race.
It was the first Verizon P1 Award of the season for the Kiwi as he now has 19 series poles. "It’s been a little while since we’ve been on pole for a road/street course, so definitely very happy,” said Dixon.
"The lap just came together; I left a little on the table yesterday. The guys put in some work on the car last night, making a few adjustments, and it’s definitely got the speed to drive today,” he added.
Franchitti commented, "We’re very happy to have both Target cars on the front row and Scott did a great job to get the pole.” For the Ganassi Honda team, it is the first time since 2010 that they swept the front row. Before Franchitti and Dixon had to prepare for the first standing start for the IZOD IndyCar Series today.
Row two will be Helio Castroneves for Penske Racing and Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay in their Chevrolet-powered Dallaras. “We made some big changes to the car last night which improved our Hitachi Dallara/Chevrolet and we also were able to complete a good lap today. Our Team Penske crew continues to do a great job for me,” said the Brazilian.
The 2012 defending champion said, “I think we have got a competitive race car and want to challenge for a race win. The track is constantly changing and Dario (Franchitti) and the Chip Ganassi guys have been doing a great job. Another quick one today so hats off to them.”
“I think we have a good car over the race distance. We will have to see it’s going to be a fight as it always is at Toronto,” added the American.
