Dixon Dominates Detroit Qualifying

Looking to clinch the 2008 IndyCar Series championship this weekend, Scott Dixon qualified on the pole Saturday for the Detroit Indy Grand Prix, besting his sole remaining title challenger, Helio Castroneves, by almost a half second. Castroneves will start on the outside of the front row, in second.

KV Racing's Oriol Servia will start third, equaling his season-best IndyCar qualifying from Edmonton, Canada, with Justin Wilson starting alongside in fourth for Newman Haas Lanigan Racing. Castroneves' Team Penske teammate, Ryan Briscoe, and Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg winner Graham Rahal, in the second Newman Haas Lanigan machine, rounded out the Firestone Fast six. Sunday's 90-lap race on the Belle Isle street circuit starts at 3:45 p.m. EDT, with live television coverage on ABC.

Scott Dixon (#9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) pole qualifier, 5th pole of 2008 and 13th career IndyCar pole: "It was tough. This is definitely a very demanding track, and I think qualifying was the first session this weekend when I didn't damage the car. Fortunately, we were able to piece together a very strong lap when it counted. Now, we just have to concentrate on getting the job done tomorrow. Go out and win the race and let the [championship] take care of itself."
