Scott Dixon and the No. 9 Target Honda Team
Two-Man Battle: Dixon and Helio Castroneves are the only two IndyCar drivers that remain eligible to win the 2008 championship. The Kiwi has a 43-point lead over the Brazilian and can secure the championship with his first win in Detroit. Previously the team won the 1998 race at Belle Isle with Alex Zanardi who did "doughnuts" after the race for the first time.
2008 vs. 2007: With six victories, 867 laps lead and five poles, Dixon enters Belle Isle in a different points situation than last year. Last year he regained the points lead after Sonoma with a four-point margin, 39 points less than he currently holds.
Leading the Laps: Dixon has led 867 laps this season and inches in on the record for most laps led in a season, 889 laps by Tony Kanaan in 2004.
Dan Wheldon and the No. 10 Target Honda Team
Belle Isle in Review: Wheldon was the biggest winner at last year's event in Detroit as he advanced 13 positions from a 16th place starting position to finish on the podium and was the most improved driver in the 89-lap event.
Double Podiums: If Dixon and Wheldon both score podium finishes this weekend, the duo will tie TCGR's team record for the most double podiums (four) in a season. They would match Jimmy Vasser and Alex Zanardi's feat that was set in 1998. The duo's current runner-up tally of three double podiums ties their 2006 count.
No. 9 Target Honda (IRL): Chassis IR6-003; Chassis won race with Dixon at Kentucky and inaugural Edmonton event.
No. 10 Target Honda (IRL): Chassis IR6-002; Car won with Wheldon at Chicagoland Speedway in 2006.
