Dario Franchitti unimpressed by Viso’s Iowa gesture

Dario Franchitti found himself with some time on his hands Saturday night as his Honda engine turned into a mosquito fogger on the pre-race warmup laps, ending the polesitter’s night before the race began.

Luckily for television viewers in the U.S., Franchitti used his sudden bank of free time to join the broadcast team and provide some valuable insight to Saturday’s Iowa Corn Indy 250.

The three-time Indianapolis 500 champion was in the booth to see IZOD Indy Car Series points leader Will Power initiate an accident with E.J. Viso, as Power came down on the right front of Viso, sending both cars spinning into the wall.

Viso, who has been on the blunt end of a number of accidents in his five-year Indy Car career and has failed to finish 31 percent of his career starts, climbed out of his car and pointed to his head to let Power know what he thought of the move (which Power later acknowledged and apologized for).

Franchitti was unimpressed.

“That’s rich,” he chuckled after the cameras caught Viso’s admonishment of Franchitti. “This is a guy (Viso) that has hit everything but the pace car. He’s the guy that is always coming up to someone after the race and apologizing for a move, and he does that.”
