Disappointing End To Milwaukee 225 Weekend For Conquest Racing
Sunday’s Milwaukee 225 ended early for Conquest Racing when the No. 34 was collected in an incident with another car.
After a challenging weekend in practice and qualifying, IZOD IndyCar rookie Sebastian Saavedra was running 21st and keeping good pace when the No. 19 of British driver Alex Lloyd spun in Turn 1 on the Lap 79 restart. With cars running under him, the 21-year-old could not avoid the impact and got caught up in the crash.
“We had a rough start to the weekend,” Saavedra said, “but we were working our way up to making the Bogota Es Mundial car competitive. We were keeping good pace and on the second stint, I felt a lot better because I knew what to expect from the car and the tires, so I could go a lot more aggressive.”
Saavedra added, “Unfortunately after the second restart, I saw Alex Lloyd getting loose so I lifted a little bit. He caught it, but then he lost it and I had nowhere to go. I tried going to the inside, but I had a couple of cars there. It was one of those things where you just wait for the hit. It’s very sad because the guys put so much effort into making this happen. We had a good race car today, but we have 11 more races to go so we’ll just stay focused, keep positive and keep working to bring the car home.”
The team competes again next weekend at Iowa Speedway.
