Bridgestone Tire Performance Summary: Bridgestone engineers brought a primary compound to Long Beach that was one step harder than last year's primary tire. The alternate tires for this race were a brand-new specification, with specially designed compounds to make them faster yet more durable than last year's alternate spec. At least nine drivers ran two sets of alternate tires during today's race, and Antonio Pizzonia set the fastest lap of the race on a set of "Bridgestone reds."

From Will Power, #8 Aussie Vineyards-Team Australia KV Racing Technology Cosworth/ DP01/Bridgestone: "We had a good strategy today, and the caution periods played out in our favor. I am just so happy for all the guys on the team who worked so hard all winter long. The Bridgestone tires were really good. The red tires were nice, and the black tires were very consistent. The tires didn't go off today -- I think it was helped because of the cooler temperatures. It was a good day!"

From Jimmy Vasser, Co-owner, KV Racing Technology: "Firestone and Bridgestone have been involved in this sport for 14 years now, and there have been a lot of great victories and a lot of great memories. To be a part of their last Champ Car victory here, and to have been a part of their first one [Vasser took Firestone's first win at Long Beach in 1996], is very, very, very satisfying."

From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "What a fitting tribute to Champ Car racing at Long Beach. Today's race clearly demonstrated everything that made this a great series over the years. Beautiful weather, an enthusiastic crowd, lots of action on the track -- this weekend had it all. We saw a lot more of the race than usual play out on our alternate tires today, which was great because we really wanted to get as much data from them as possible. They contain a special technology that we think will somday soon translate over to passenger tires, providing them with higher levels of grip without the tradeoff in durability. Finally, congratulations to KV Racing Technology and Will Power for securing their place in the history books with their win today."

Race temperatures: Ranged from 102-105 F (39-40 C) track and from 60-61 F (15-16 C) ambient.
