A sticking wheel during the pitstop cost Neel Jani a top 5 placing at the Belgian ChampCar Grand Prix in Zolder

The eleventh race weekend of the American ChampCar Worldseries took place, once more after 2003, again in Europe. For most of the ChamCar drivers, including Neel Jani, it was like coming home to race. By the way 11 of the 17 ChampCar drivers are coming from Europe.

Qualifying resulted in a ninth position, due to setup difficulties on new tyres. Neel was still optimistic, because in Toronto he started also 9th and finished second!

In the first race lap Neel gained a position and after 20 minutes could overtake Paul Tracy to move up to sixth. After the first yellow phase he in fact climbed up to 5th. During the second pitstop a sticking wheelnut put him down to 8th. He then finished the race in 8th position as overtaking was very difficult in Zolder.

Neel said after the race,“today we should have finished in the top 5 as my car felt good. My fourth fastest race lap confirmed that. Unfortunatley we had an issue with a sticking wheelnut during our second pitstop.”

Next week the 12th ChampCar race will take place in Assen (NL).
