* Temperature ranges: Race temperatures ranged from 82-92 F (27-33 C) track and from 73-77 F (22-25 C) ambient.
Bridgestone Tire Performance Summary: The Zolder circuit required the moderate-grip primary tire in Bridgestone's current road course lineup. The alternate tire, which provided a bit more grip, was for the most part demonstrably quicker than the primary, and played into team strategies both in qualifying and in the race. A chart with each driver's tire use today is below/attached.
From Sebastien Bourdais, #1 McDonald's Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone: "The Bridgestone tires were really good. I mean, the primary tires were maybe a little too conservative for the conditions because it was pretty cold, but we're in the summer, so I'm sure you [Bridgestone] guys were expecting something a little different! But they were really consistent, and once I was getting up to speed, it was fantastic. I had a great time in the last stint once I got into the pace, the car was fantastic - great consistency, very good grip!"
From Page Mader, General Manager, Race Tire Development, Bridgestone Motorsport: "Having never been to this race track before, Bridgestone decided to bring our proven moderate-grip road course tire based upon our calculations and predictions. These same primary and alternate tires had already proven to be consistent and durable at the Cleveland, Mont-Tremblant and Edmonton races earlier this season. Overall, we are pleased with the performance of the tires - they performed basically as expected, and in qualifying, the red alternate tires proved to be up to half a second quicker than the black primaries. We will take these same tire specs to Assen, and we expect another great race there next weekend to complete Champ Car's European swing."
