Yellow flags for track inspection plagued both Champ Car sessions today, which resulted in limited track time and frustrations for Bryan Herta and the Zakspeed/Forsythe Racing team. Herta started the day in his back-up car and immediately set the fastest time of the session. Proving all was well with the back-up car, Herta and his crew presented his primary car. A sticky piston in the right rear brake caliper limited Herta's ability to bring the primary car to speed, retiring the car for the day. Herta finished the morning session in 17th position. The afternoon session did not fare much better for the rookie team. Herta was satisfied with the handling of his car, but was not able to find the speed needed for a competitive effort. Prepared to make his final attempt of the session with three minutes remaining, the fifth full-course yellow of the session was displayed for a track inspection, and was followed by the checkered flag. Herta's day ended in a disappointing 22nd position. After spending some time de-briefing with Lee Dykstra (Race Engineer) and Don Bricker (Asst. Race Engineer) the trio felt confident they would find the speed for a stronger effort tomorrow. Herta will attempt his third straight top ten qualifying effort Friday, May 18 (U.S.A. - Thursday, May 17, at 12:30 a.m. EST).

Herta on the day:

"The car doesn't feel too bad right now, so I'm not sure why we aren’t any faster. We are still looking at the data to see where we can improve the car, but the handling doesn't seem to bad right now. We will make a couple of changes overnight and see where we are tomorrow."
