•Won the CART championship with 154 points. He led the championship after every round except Round 2.

•Captured four wins including his first career CART victory which came at Homestead in the season opener. He also won back-to-back races at Australia and Long Beach and added a fourth victory in the inaugural US 500 at Michigan and captured the subsequent million dollar purse.

•He became the first driver in CART history to capture their first win during a championship season.
