Molson Indy Vancouver Sunday Warm-up

The session started with most of the field taking to the track. Most of the teams started practicing pitstops, but Herta, Jones and Vitolo put in some relatively fast times. After about five minutes, a few more drivers took to the track and a few minutes later, they started getting serious about putting in times.

Rahal was the first driver to break 1:10. Then Andretti took 1st, followed by Castro-Neves, then Andretti took it back. Times were now down in the 1:08s. In five minutes the times went from the 1:10s and 1:20s to 1:08s and 1:09s. Then they dropped into the 1:07s. Tracy took 1st, then Hearns took 1st, then Fittipaldi took 1st. Jones, Gugelmin and Castro-Neves were in there as well taking 2nd and 3rd at various times.

With ten minutes to go, the order was Fittipaldi, Hearns, Gugelmin, Castro-Neves, Lehto, Franchitti, Carpentier, Papis, Tracy and Jones. But all was not well with Carpentier. He pulled off the course and into the turn 7 run-off area. Moore took 1st with a 1:07.083 and was almost immediately followed by Franchitti taking 1st with a 1:07l.076. Then Gugelmin blew them all away with a time that beat everyone else by half a second.

With six minutes to go, Jourdain was going into turn 1 and the back-end of the car came out and hit the tire, knocking the tires into the track and putting his car into the wall at the beginning of turn two. The workers did an amazing job of clearing out the damaged car and putting the tires back in place and the session was restarted with two-and-a-half minutes to go.

On the restart, most of the cars went out, Andretti being the first. Zanardi managed to put in a 1:06.498 time on his last run to take 1st. No one else except Lehto improved.
